Day 9

It’s finally cruise time!! Today is the day we start our cruise! This meant an early wake-up up call today, 5:45am. We enjoyed breakfast at our hotel before getting on the bus that would take us to the port. It was a quick drive, and once we were there we had to go through the check in process, similar to an airport. After getting our boarding cards, and passing through security, it was time to get on board!

We all gathered in the main lounge area until our cabins were ready. This is considered a midsized cruise ship, able to fit approximately 1500 passengers. I personally have never been on a cruise, so it all seemed huge to me (12 floors!) Our rooms were ready within an hour so everyone dispersed. It was only a shirt while until we had to participate in the mandatory lifeboat drill and welcome meeting. After we learned about all procedures for the cruise, it was finally time to relax!
First on the agenda was lunch. The cruise has 2 options for food, the buffet or the restaurant. We chose the buffet. Go big or go home, right? There was a variety of options from traditional Greek foods to more recognizable American foods. They even has a pasta bar! Some of us were a little hesitant to have pasta again so soon, but they did not disappoint! Once we were fully stuffed, it was time to enjoy all of the perks the cruise had to offer.

The pool deck was our first spot. Most of us lathered on the sunscreen and laid out to try and get that Greek tan. We were constantly being delivered yummy smoothies and fruity drinks to help keep us cool. It wasn’t long before they were calling out for participants to learn some Greek dancing. A few of the kids decided to try it out and weren’t half bad! Immediately after the dancing, there was a Zumba lesson. More kids went up to dance and workout.

As soon as the dancing ended we had almost arrived to Mykonos. We met in the main lounge and waited patiently for our group to be called. We made our way down stairs to the tender boats (smaller boats that take you to shore) and headed to shore. The island was beautiful! It was painted white with accents of blues everywhere. Our tour director led us through the windy pathways until we arrived at the picturesque windmills. Thus photo stop is one of the things that Mykonos is known for. We were given free time after this and set off on our own. Some of the kids stopped for food, a few shopped, and a few walked aimlessly through the city. Eventually we all made it back to the ship, just in time for dinner! Tomorrow we are heading to the islands of Samos, just a mere 1.2 km from the Asian coastline! Enjoy the pics! Only 4 more days!
